Slurry Blasters GSB Series

slurry blaster[1].jpgThe GSB Series is a heavy duty, industrial-use wet blast cabinet. Like all our sandblasting cabinets, our Slurry/Wet blast cabinets are 100% laser cut and hand welded. Constructed with 12 gauge stainless steel, the GSB Slurry Blast Cabinet is built for durability and efficiency.

Slurry/Wet blasting can also be known as vapor blasting and/or liquid honing. There are numerous reasons why Slurry/Wet blasting is becoming more favorable over dry blasting and this is primarily because of its two key features; first of all the overall finish is achieved by the flow of water abrasive and not by impact, and secondly because it is a dust-free process.

Wet blasting is a less aggressive form of blasting in comparison to dry blasting, working just as effectively. The ricochet of media is reduced due to the cushioning effect created from the water acting as a lubricant between the media and the component surface. As a result, the angle of the media is changed, producing a lapping effect travelling across the surface, resulting in an even satin, polished, and or “Platinum Finish”.

Unlike dry blasting where the finish is produced by sheer force of media impact, Slurry/Wet blasting does not allow for media to be impregnated into the part, nor is there any dust created by the break-up of media. This is very important for parts with internal components like pumps and engines

The wet blast system in this cabinet, (often referred to as a slurry pump system), delivers a mix of media, air, & water to the blast gun. There is compressed air introduced to accelerate the abrasive media to the blasted surface. This is sometimes known as vapor blasting.

This process creates a very clean surface, much like the high impact of conventional dry blasting processes, but with a more delicate finish.

What is Slurry/Wet Blasting Used For?

Industrial applications include extensive cleaning, degreasing, deburring and descaling, as well as removal of paint, chemicals and oxidation. Slurry/Wet blasting is perfect for high-precision composite etching for bonding. The Giant Slurry/Wet Blast Process is a sustainable, repeatable method for precision parts cleaning and finishing, surface profiling, polishing, and texturing of metals and other materials.

Wet/Slurry Blast Applications

  • Degreasing
  • Surface finishing of components
  • Cleaning of dies & molds
  • Removal of paint, dirt, grease, rust, scale, carbon and other deposits
  • Surface preparation prior to etching, bonding, re-painting or re-coating
  • Satin or “Platinum Finish” of stainless steels, brass and other special materials
  • Burr removal from machining marks
